Bay Area Resorts Helping "Spare the Air" With All-Wood Firelogs

WATSONVILLE, CA --- In recent years, stricter air quality standards have gone into effect governing woodsmoke emissions from residential and recreational wood-burning. This year an increasing number of Bay Area resorts are using Goodwood® All-Wood Firelogs in their wood-burning fireplaces to help support pollution reduction efforts without compromising this important guest amenity. By switching from firewood to all-wood firelogs, large-scale users can help keep Bay Area woodsmoke levels from exceeding new stricter air standards. When those standards are exceeded, the air district can impose restrictions such as curtailing wood-burning altogether.

Bay Area resorts have been at the forefront of the green movement in hospitality and recreation industries. Initiatives like Asilomar Conference Grounds' GreenPath® Program and Fairmont's Green Partnership are fundamental to company operations. In keeping with those programs, both Asilomar and Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn have recently switched from firewood or wax-based logs to easy-lighting Goodwood Firelog Bags in their fireplace suites. Of utmost importance to these resorts is that guests continue to enjoy the sought-after ambience and experience of real wood, while using a greener, cleaner-burning product.

Other local resorts like Ventana Inn in Big Sur, Harvest Inn in St. Helena, Seal Cove Inn in Moss Beach and Half Moon Bay Lodge have been using the easy-light bags for two or more years. Recreation facilities such as Bothe State Park in Napa and Riverside Campgrounds in Big Sur have begun using Goodwood All-Wood Firelogs instead of regular bundled firewood and are pleased with significantly lower smoke levels as well as visitor approval.

"Most people in the Bay Area are familiar with 'Spare the Air' announcements," said Jennifer Young, founder of Summit Views. "But fewer people know there is an alternative fireplace fuel that will reduce woodsmoke emissions by about half. Resorts in our area are making a difference by building awareness of this renewable, sustainable alternative to regular firewood, wax logs and gas."

GoodwoodŽ Firelogs are densified all-wood firelogs made from clean woody biomass and millwaste diverted from landfills. This biomass material is compressed - "densified" - into all-wood firelogs, bound only by the natural lignin in wood, without the use of waxes and additives typical of most firelogs. Densified fuels, such as wood pellets and firelogs, are preferred by air quality and environmental agencies as they burn with 25-50% fewer particulates than firewood and are carbon-neutral renewable, sustainable resource products.

Goodwood All-Wood Firelogs and easy-lighting Goodwood Firelog Bags are sold in pallet quantities directly to resorts, recreation facilities, retail stores and residences. Cases are also available online through the company's online store at www.goodwoodproducts.com.
